In 1996 I was appointed by the then Bangladesh Cricket Control Board, since renamed the Bangladesh Cricket Board as coach of their national side.

It was my first serious test as a coach of a national team and Bangladesh achieved beyond its expectations and won the ICC trophy, which enabled it then to qualify for the World Cup. I have many memories of my time there and I'm very proud of all that we achieved together during what was to be a fairly challenging 20 months.

I met some very special people in Bangladesh and will always have a very warm place in my heart for the Bangladeshi people in general and an extra warm spot for some in particular.
